Renewables to generate 12.5 per cent of Guatemala's power within three years

Guatemala's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) forecasts that within the coming three years renewable energy sources will provide up to 12.5 per cent of the country's energy mix.

Renewable Energy Solar Panel Installation in Guatemala

Figures published in May showed that the country's overall installed capacity reached 2519.2 MW at the time. Renewable devices made up 280.6 MW of that amount, with 241.6 MW coming from biomass, 34 MW from geothermal power plants and 5 MW from solar farms.

Solar devices are expected to reach an installed capacity of 88 MW by 2017. This will be possible thanks to projects such as Horus I and II.
