Koreans secure safety control systems contract at Jeddah plant

Yokogawa Electric is to provide safety systems for Saudi Arabia’s 2892 MW thermal power plant at Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Japanese company will supply control systems, safety instrumented systems, analysis systems, and other products for Stage-1 of the Jeddah South supercritical oil-fired thermal power plant project, which is being run by Saudi Electric.

The contract was awarded by Hyundai Heavy Industries and the recipients are Yokogawa Electric and a subsidiary, Yokogawa Middle East & Africa.

Under the Stage-1 of Jeddah South, four 723MW units will be built and will have a total capacity of 2,892MW. Unit 1 is scheduled to start operation in 2017.

Yokogawa will supply a CENTUM VP R5 integrated production control system for the control of the boiler and its auxiliary facilities.For each of the four units, the company will also supply CENTUM VP R5 integrated production control system for the control of the boiler and its auxiliary facilities, including all IEC61850-based electrical systems; a ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system (SIS); an Exaquantum plant information management system (PIMS); and a plant operation training simulator.

The company will also supply PK200 current-to-pneumatic converters; liquid analysis system consisting of conductivity, pH and residual chlorine analyzers; and duct gas analysis system consisting of oxygen, infrared gas, and TDLS200 tunable diode laser analyzers.

Yokogawa Saudi Arabia, a unit of Yokogawa Middle East & Africa, will be in charge of the engineering and commissioning of the distributed control systems (DCS), SISs, and PIMSs.

Meanwhile Yokogawa Electric and Yokogawa Electric Korea will be responsible for the engineering and delivery of the current-to-pneumatic converters and the analysis systems.
