Centrica acquires gas-fired power plant as part of Bord Gais purchase

The Whitegate gas-fired power plant in Cork, Ireland has passed into the hands of Centrica, after the UK energy firm purchased the Irish state-owned energy provider, Bord Gais Energy.

The deal, worth $1.5bn is expected to be completed in the coming months and as well as the 450 MW plant, Centrica, headed by Sam Laidlaw (pictured) will also acquire the company’s gas and electricity supply business.

Centrica's partners in the deal are Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners and iCON Infrastructure Partners.

Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners will acquire Bord Gáis Energy's renewable energy assets when the sale goes through.
