Vaisala bolsters renewable forecasting business

Finland’s Vaisala has broadened its position in the renewable energy market through the acquisition of US-based 3TIER.

Vaisala (OMX: VAIAS), which provides a range of observation and measurement products and services for weather-related and industrial markets, including wind and solar power says the value of the deal is $14.5m.

3TIER, which recorded $9m net sales in 2012, provides project feasibility, asset management and forecasting services to companies operating in the renewable energy market globally.

While the majority of 3TIER’s business comes from the wind energy market, the company also serves customers in solar and hydro-energy markets.

Vaisala asserts that the addition to its environmental sensing business and its international distribution network will provide significant growth opportunities in Brazil, Nordic countries, China, Australia, India, and the US.
