South African wind tower manufacturing plant nears completion

Gestamp Renewable Industries (GRI) said that its South African wind tower manufacturing facility will become fully operational in the second half of 2014.

The facility will commence operation at its Cape Town base, with over 200 jobs set to be created. 150 towers are expected to be produced a year with a total project investment of $30m, significantly contributing to the country's renewable energy development.

Gestamp is also developing a 75 MW wind power plant in the Karoo area on the farm Noblesfontein (Victoria West) with an investment of around $218m.
