Best Paper Award winners honoured at POWER-GEN 2013

At the closing reception of POWER-GEN Europe in Vienna on Thursday, the best conference speakers were honoured for their contributions during the event.

The Best Paper Awards reception involved all participants at POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe.

Judges from the expert conference programme Advisory Boards selected the Best Paper Award winner for each conference track, based on outstanding concept and content.

There were also two highly commended papers in each category.

Melle Kruisdick, Market Development Director at Wartsila was winner in Track 1: Strategies for the European power industry, with a paper entitled, “Future Market Designs for Reliable Electricity Systems in Europe.”

DNV Kema’s Bert Heesink’s paper “Managing Principal Clean Fossil Power” merited his award in Track 2, Road to Decarbonisation.

Track 3 featured papers on Gas fired power technology, with Alstom Power’s Peter Marx winning the award for his “Fuel Flexibility Capabilities of Alstom’s GT26 Gas Turbine” paper.

Herbert Hauser of Boehler Schweisstechnik was recognised in the Thermal and Nuclear Power Plant category for his a paper called, “New Steel Fulfils Requirements for New High Efficient Power Plants”.

In the Electrical instrumentation and control category, the winning presentation was “High Temperature Corrosion Controlling by Online Fuel and Process Atmosphere Management Solution, Germany, by Jaani Silvennoinen of Metso Power.

Track 6: Refurbishment, operation, maintenance and optimization was won by Michele Raciti of Ansaldo Energia for the paper, “Generator Stator Repair and Refurbishment Onsite”.

Renewable Energy World Europe oversaw a winning entry from Umberto Penco Salvi of Clifford Chance, for his study, “EU Anti-dumping Measures towards Chinese Component Producers: Potential Commercial and Legal Consequences in the Renewable Energy Sector”, while Dirk Briese of Ensea received an award for his paper, “The market for substructures in the offshore wind energy – requirements and production capacities”.

Yi Zong from DTU Elektro was recognised for her paper “Different Predictive Control Strategies for Active Load Management in Distributed Power Systems with High Penetration of Renewable Energy Sources.”

CEO of Pennwell Corporation, Bob Biolchini (pictured) presented the prestigious awards on the afternoon, to conclude POWER-GEN Europe 2013.

POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe  will next be held in Cologne, Germany 3-5 June 2014.
