RWE npower contracts GE for gas power upgrade

RWE npower (FWB: RWE) has hired GE (NYSE: GE) to help it increase its operational flexibility and reduce costs at two of the company’s gas-fired power plants in the UK.

The multimillion dollar, multi-year maintenance plan will see GE provide a range of services to optimise the gas-fired 740MW Little Barford and 400MW Great Yarmouth power plants.
Little Barford
The Little Barford combined-cycle plant operates with two 50Hz GE 9FA gas turbines, while the Great Yarmouth plant operates with one GE 9FA gas turbine. For the duration of the contract, GE will supply original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and technical services including repairs and training.

GE will also helps the plants to maintain high levels of fuel efficiency and reduce maintenance cycles to enable higher availability and increased revenues from generation.
