ABB wins $120m Saudi transformer deal

ABB has won orders worth around $120m to supply transformers to Saudi Arabia.

ABB will design, manufacture, supply and install the transformers at substations around the country for the Saudi Electricity Company. The transformers are capable of withstanding thermal and mechanical stresses caused by severe climate conditions, high altitudes, cyclical loads and short circuit forces, which ABB says makes them ideal for the kingdom’s desert conditions, where temperatures can hit 55oC.

Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB’s power products division, said Saudi Arabia “remains a key market for ABB and we are delighted to continue supporting the country in its efforts to strengthen its power infrastructure”.
