France announces investment in solar and wind power

The French government has introduced measures to boost renewable power generation in the country.

Energy Minister Delphine Batho introduced measures aimed at increasing the annual target solar capacity in France to 1000 MW a year such as providing financial incentives to small solar developers.

The measures aim to support the declining solar industry in France until the government introduces a wider energy law following its 'energy transition debate'.

The measures are also expected to attract additional investments of over $2.6bn for the industry.

In more good news for the renewables sector, Minister Batho launched a call for tenders for the construction of $4.57bn worth of offshore wind farms, also to generate 1000 MW of electricity.

The wind farms are planned for construction near Treport, in northern France, and near the Noimoutier and Iles d'Yeu islands on the Atlantic coast.
