Areva to supply Iberdrola’s Baltic Sea project

Areva (Euronext: CEI) is to deliver its M5000 wind turbine technology to Iberdrola (BMAD: IBE) for use on the company’s Wikinger offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea.

The 400 MW offshore project is to be completed over the course of 2016 and 2017.

Luc Oursel, CEO of Areva, said: “We are honoured by Iberdrola’s renewed confidence in Areva’s offshore wind technology which further comforts the group’s strong ambitions in Europe.

According to Recharge News, the developer’s selection of Areva will come as a blow to Gamesa, the Spanish wind turbine manufacturer which was on the shortlist for Wikinger.
