UAE awards fuel contracts for first nuclear plant

The UAE has awarded contracts worth $3 billion to six international firms to supply fuel for the country's first nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

Equities.com reports that deeals have been signed with Rio Tinto, France's Areva, US-based ConverDyn, Canada's Uranium One, Urenco and Russia's Tenex, the largest exporter of low-enriched uranium in the world.

The contracts are expected to provide the plant with fuel supply for the first 15 years of operations, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp (ENEC) said.
