Best Paper Awards presented at POWER-GEN Asia

The prestigious POWER-GEN Asia ‘Best Paper Awards’ took place at the Bangkok event earlier this month and featured winners in four categories.

Sarah Fairhurst from the Lantau Group delivered the winning paper in the Trends, Finance and Planning category, with her  paper entitled, ‘Is the "International Power Producer" a Relic of the Past?’

John Willis of Willis Group, with his paper, ‘Managing the Insurance & Risk Management Costs of a New Build Power Project in Asia’ and L.E.K Consulting’s Manas Tamotia’s ‘Power Generation Investments -Analysis of Cost of Capital in Frontier ASEAN’ were highly commended in this category.

In the Environmental Protection, Flexibility and Grid Tech category, Dr Adriana Catanese of ESB International had the successful entry with her paper, ‘Techno-Economic Evaluation of Ccpp Retrofit For Co2 Abatement.’

Babcock & Wilcox’s Albert Moretti and Siemens’ Hardy Kliemke were deemed runners-up in this category.

For Power Generation and Plant Technologies, Dr. Qiurong Chen came out on top with a paper entitled ‘Advanced Lignite Boilers with Supercritical Steam Conditions.’

Koichi Sakamoto of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Matthias Hiddemann came highly commended for their work.

Steve Borsani of Babcock & Wilcox provided the winning paper in the Operation, Optimisation and Servicing category with his paper, ‘Capacity Upgrade, Rehabilitation, NOx Reduction, and Efficiency Restoration (CO2 Reduction) of Suralaya Units 1 and 2.’

Conference Chairman Nigel Blackaby presented the awards to the deserving recipients, after deliberation and judgement by a sub group of the POWER-GEN Asia Advisory Board.

The next POWER-GEN Asia is in Bangkok 2-4 Oct 2013.
