Chile’s renewables grid integration grows

Currently, Chile’s electricity grid has integrated 4 per cent renewable electricity generation, Alfredo Solar, president of the Chilean Association of Renewable Energy, confirmed.

During the first six months of 2012, the generation of power from renewable energy sources was more than 730 MW, with a further 1000 MW under environmental assessment.

According to Solar, 90 per cent of the energy is generated by solar and wind, with this trend continuing.

However, he added that some renewable projects were facing significant challenges because of environmental opposition, or commercial and financing issues.
