Thailand-Philippines JV to expand coal power

The Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. coal power plant is set for expansion as talks commenced between Thailand’s Electricity Generating Public Co. Ltd (Egco). and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) for a joint venture.

The 460 MW coal-fired power plant in Quezon, may now see a joint venture between EGCO and Meralco, with a proposed expansion of 500 MW.

Meralco president Oscar Reyes said the negotiations were in line with the company’s efforts to ensure adequate and reliable power supply to over five million residential, commercial and industrial accounts in its franchise area and other potential customers in Luzon.
