Guaranteed price will show advantage of nuclear- EDF chief

The head of EDF Energy (Euronext: EDF), Vincent de Rivaz says the imminent guaranteed price for power in the UK will demonstrate the advantage of nuclear power over its renewable rivals.

De Rivaz expects that the price will ‘reveal the competitiveness” of nuclear energy compared to wind power, but added that the UK government needed to introduce the Energy Bill law as soon as possible.

EDF and Centrica are currently in negotiation with the government and wrote to the chair of the energy and climate change committee, Tim Yeo to emphasise that EDF would "have all the elements in place for successful, on time delivery of [nuclear new build]" by the end of 2012, before warning that the Energy Bill swiftly becoming law was "critical to a positive investment decision".
