Centrica strengthens American portfolio

British utility Centrica (LSE: CNA) is to buy two US gas and electricity suppliers from Iberdrola, adding to the company’s portfolio in North America.

Operating as Direct Energy in the US and Canada, the company has paid $110m for Energetix and NYSEG Solutions, according to FT.

After these latest acquisitions, Centrica will have 5.5m customers in North America, including 500,000 in New York State.
