$500m Chinese investment in Iranian coal plant

The Tehran Times reports that an unnamed Chinese company has invested $500m in the construction of a coal fired power plant in central Iran.

Bloomberg cites the Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad as stating that the power plant will be located in the city of Tabas in Yazd Province and will be able to generate 650 MW of electricity.

Iran has plans to generate 5,000 MW of electricity through the use of coal-fired plants, the report concluded.
