Ansaldo Nucleare boss shot by masked gunman

The boss of Italian nuclear engineering company Ansaldo Nucleare was shot as he left his home this week.

Roberto Adinolfi was hit in the leg by a shot fired by a gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet who escaped on a stolen moped.

Adinolfi's right knee was fractured but he is not in a serious condition.

The attack harks back to shootings carried out by the Italian Red Brigades in the 1970s, when the terrorist group tried to destabilise the government by kidnapping and sometimes murdering businessmen and politicians. During this time, three executives at companies in the Ansaldo group were executed and another kidnapped.
