Trade bodies merge to form new UK electricity and gas group

A new trade association for the gas and electricity sector in the UK was formed this week.

Energy UK is a merger of three existing organisations: the Association of Electricity Producers, the Energy Retail Association and the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy.

It will represent around 70 companies and be governed by a board of 16 directors.

Acting chief executive David Porter said Energy UK “will play a vital role in leading the industry into a new era”.

“There are critical decisions to be made about the country's energy future, and we intend to be right at the heart of the national debates. Key priorities will be to maintain and enhance investor confidence in the UK, while also working to improve the reputation of the industry among its customers and the communities it serves.”
