Gaia-Wind bags 50-turbine US order

Scottish small wind turbine manufacturer Gaia-Wind is set to double its presence in the US market following a £1.5m ($2.3m) deal with a Californian renewables firm.

Gaia-Wind will supply up to 50 of its large bladed 133-11 kW turbines to Talco Electronics, one of the leaders in the US distributed wind industry.

The contract comes as Gaia-Wind has in recent weeks won a 200-turbine order in the UK with renewable energy provider Myriad CEG Power, opened an office in Milan and installed its first turbines in France.

Gaia-Wind chief executive Johnnie Andringa said: “In the United States we are catching the wave of distributed generation. Most often this means individual turbines for people trying to reduce their energy costs and make a contribution against climate change.

Designed for sites with average annual wind speeds of between 10-17mph, the Gaia-Wind 133-11 kW turbine is targeted at areas with large open spaces such as farms, rural properties, businesses, and community projects.
