Babcock to aid EDF nuclear decommissioning in France

UK nuclear support specialists, Babcock, is extending its expertise to France, in particular to assist with the nuclear decommissioning programme there via its recently established registered office in Lyon.

From its Lyon office Babcock is working with EDF’s (Euronext: EDF) nuclear decommissioning and environmental division, CIDEN (Centre d’Ingénierie de Déconstruction et Environement), which is headquartered in the city.

It is also engaging with the French supply chain with subcontracts placed for specific tasks with two French engineering companies.

Babcock’s expertise in remote dismantling of gas cooled graphite reactors and disposal of the associated waste streams is directly applicable to EDF’s requirements, as is its experience of dismantling and decommissioning of fast breeder reactors and the related alkali metals treatment.
