No silver bullet for energy mix dilemma

There is no “silver bullet” to the dilemma of finding the best energy mix for the future, according to Franz-Josef Mengede, president of the European Power Plant Suppliers Association.

Speaking at EPPSA’s annual technology evening in Brussels last night, Mengede said: One size fits all does not work. Energy efficiency, renewables, carbon capture and storage and – although some people might not like to hear it – nuclear, all have a part to play.”

And he stressed that energy efficiency could reap the greatest rewards for the power industry in terms of meeting European targets for cutting carbon.

“Energy efficiency could save two-thirds of the required emissions reductions,” said Mengede, head of business unit power generation at ABB Group.
