Enel awarded Chilean wind farm concession

Enel Chile, a subsidiary of Italy’s Enel Green Power, has obtained a concession for 2600 hectares in the Antofagasta region, where it plans to develop a 99 MW wind farm.

However, the Taltal wind farm, which will comprise 33 turbines, is still awaiting both technical and an environmental approvals.

Local authorities are hoping that the project will generate 329 GWh per year, with enough capacity to supply electricity to 170 homes and at the same time reduce carbon emissions by 217 tonnes.

The wind farm will be connected to Chile’s Central Interconnection System (SIC) through the Paposo subestation, Energias Renovables reports.
