Solar Power Generation on the Way for New York Office Space

Global reinsurer Swiss Re has broken ground on a solar power installation for its U.S. headquarters in Armonk, New York.

The two-MW installation is the largest of its type permitted in the state of New York. It will include 7,700 solar panels over 10 acres of land when it’s finished in spring 2017.

Swiss Re expects the plant will generate 60 percent of the power needed at Swiss Re’s campus.

“Globally, Swiss Re sources 85 percent of the energy it uses from renewable sources,” said Rolf Krummenacher, head of corporate real estate and logistics for Swiss Re, in a company press release. “Added to our ongoing work to reduce overall energy consumption per employee, this solar facility in Armonk will help us reach our goal of 100 percent renewable energy sources by 2020.”
