Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World Name Finalists for Projects of the Year

The editors of Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World magazines are pleased to announce our 2016 Project of the Year Finalists.

Eight outstanding power projects were selected from industry-nominated projects in four categories: Natural Gas, Renewables, Coal, and Combined Heat and Power (CHP).

To be eligible, projects must have come online between Aug. 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016. Editors from Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World selected the finalists based on the following criteria: Technological innovation, local impact, logistical challenges and creativity, and capacity.

The winning projects in each category will be announced Dec. 13 during the keynote session at POWER-GEN International 2016 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. This year, POWER-GEN is coming to Orlando with four co-located events: Nuclear Power International 2016, COAL-GEN 2016, Renewable Energy World International 2016, and the GenForum.  We’re calling it Power Generation Week, which features five conferences and four exhibitions under one roof.  More than 1,400 exhibiting companies from every sector of the industry will be showcasing their products and services on the exhibit floor.

Two power project finalists were selected for each category. They are:

Best Gas-Fired Project

·         Port Everglades Next Generation Clean Energy Center, Florida Power & Light

·         Brunswick County Power Station, Dominion Virginia Power

Best Renewable Project

·         Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Center, SolarReserve

·         Village of Minster Energy Storage Project, Half Moon Ventures

Best Coal-Fired Project

·         Mill Creek Generating Station, Louisville Gas & Electric

·         Longview Power Plant Rehabilitation, Longview Power

Best CHP Project

·         Eight Flags Energy CHP Plant, Florida Public Utilities Co.

·         Coldwater BPU Peaking Plant, Michigan South Central Power Agency

"Companies like those represented by this year's project finalists are instrumental in meeting public demands for cleaner, more efficient electricity,” said Richard G. Baker, publisher of Power Engineering and senior vice president of PennWell's Power Generation Group. “Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World are once again pleased to be able to recognize some of the exceptional power projects that were completed in the past year."

The greatest minds in power generation will be gathering in Orlando Dec. 13-15 for Power Generation Week to discuss the chemistry, operation and regulation of power generation. The most innovative and cost-effective solutions for maintaining, operating and building new power generation will be shared with more than 20,000 attendees. To register, click here.
