Wärtsilä and PLN to Develop Power Generation in Indonesia

Wärtsilä and PT Perusahan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia’s state power company, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperatively develop 500 MW of power generation and related small-scale LNG storage and regasification infrastructure in Indonesia. The MoU was timed to coincide with the visit to Finland of Indonesia’s State Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno. The contract will be fulfilled over the next two years.

Indonesia’s rapidly developing economy has improved the country’s standard of living in recent years. Further economic growth will require investment in large infrastructure projects like power generation. Indonesia is currently working to ensure equal availability of reliable power throughout the archipelago. It has targeted the addition of 35,000 MW of power generation capacity by 2019.

"Wärtsilä's proven capability to deliver high quality, efficient, and flexible power plant solutions on a fast-track basis is perfectly suited to the requirements of Indonesia," said Javier Cavada, President Wärtsilä Energy Solutions. "With this MoU, Wärtsilä is also pleased to express its strong commitment towards the development of Indonesian manufacturing skills and knowledge transfer, as it is the basis for a mutually beneficial and long relationship."

To date, Wärtsilä has developed more than 3 GW of power generation capacity in Indonesia.
