A 147-MW wind energy facility in Oklahoma was sold to a subsidiary of Southern Co (NYSE: SO).

Southern Power acquired the 147-MW Grant Plains wind farm in Oklahoma from Apex Clean Energy. It will use 64 wind turbines manufactured by Siemens (NYSE: SI). Grant Plains will be Southern Power’s third wind farm in Oklahoma, with a portfolio that includes the adjacent 151-MW Grant Wind facility and the 299-MW Kay Wind facility. All of the wind projects were acquired from Apex using Siemens wind turbines.

Apex Clean Energy manages the construction and will operate and maintain the facility upon completion. IEA Renewable Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives LLC, is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.

The plant is expected to reach commercial operation in December 2016.
