A subsidiary of Southern Nuclear Operating Co. (Southern Nuclear) and X-energy LLC signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on development of X-energy’s High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR).
The collaboration on the Xe-100 reactor aims to make available an additional nuclear solution in the global clean energy movement. The reactor is designed to produce zero-emission energy around the clock.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) separately awarded X-energy and the Southern Co.-TerraPower partnership each with five-year Advanced Reactor Concept Cooperative Agreements. The X-energy award focuses on furthering the reactor design, fuel development and initial licensing activities.
