ENEC Installs Steam Generators at UAE Nuclear Project

Barakah nuclear plant

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) announced the successful installation of its Unit 3 steam generators at the Barakah nuclear project in the United Arab Emirates.

Doosan Heavy Industries manufactured the two generators in South Korea over a four-year period. Over the next six months, further piping connection work will continue to connect the generators to the Unit 3 reactor vessel, turbine generators and condenser. Steam generators play a key role in the conversion of the energy generated by nuclear fission into electricity. The heat generated from the nuclear reaction turns water into steam, which is then used to spin a turbine and generate electricity.

The four-unit Barakah nuclear plant is set for completion in 2020 with the total project almost 68 percent complete. Construction on the project started in 2012.
