Solar Frontier Americas has begun construction on two utility-scale copper, indium, and selenium (CIS) solar projects in California’s Imperial County.

Once complete, the Midway I project will have a 67-MW capacity and sell electricity to Pacific Gas & Electric under an executed power purchase agreement (PPA). Midway II will have a 40-MW capacity and serve electricity to the Imperial Irrigation District under a PPA.

Blattner Energy will provide EPC services, while Power Electronics supplies inverters. Additionally, NEXTracker will supply its NX Horizon™ single-axis trackers for increased energy yields.

Charles Pimentel, CEO of Solar Frontier Americas Development, said, “Solar Frontier has developed an extensive U.S. project development pipeline of over 400 MW and has rapidly established itself as a reliable and bankable player in the solar development industry. We are pleased to now start construction of Midway I and Midway II, two solar power plants that will deliver economical, clean, and renewable energy.”
