Caterpillar Introduces New Tier 4 Generator Set

Caterpillar Inc. today announced the expansion of the company’s line of rental power solutions with the introduction of the Cat® XQ60 mobile diesel generator set. Rated at 60 kVA, the new product meets Tier 4 Final emission standards while improving fuel efficiency and optimizing productivity for rental operations.

Equipped with Caterpillar’s EMCP 4.2B control panel, the Cat XQ60 includes power metering, protective relaying, and engine and generator control and monitoring. Additionally, it integrates the voltage regulator to simplify the process of changing voltage to suit applications. Multiple distribution options provide additional receptacles to which customers can connect depending on operational needs.

Speaking about the generator set, Brian Kruse, general manager at Caterpillar Rental Power division, said, “For the latest XQ mobile generator set, we completely refreshed the design focusing on meeting more than just the emission regulations with new features specifically designed for the end user. We were able to reduce the overall package weight allowing the unit to be mounted in a single axle trailer, which provides superior maneuverability when compared to a twin axle trailer. But beyond that, we achieved the Tier 4 Final emissions without the addition of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).”

The XQ60 is Caterpillar’s fourth Tier 4 Final mobile generator set in a range that extends from 35 to 570 kVA.
