Siemens Signs 25-Year Service Agreement for Qatar Plant

Siemens has signed a 25-year agreement to service the planned Umm Al Houl combined-cycle power plant in Qatar. The agreement is designed to improve flexibility and operating capability at the plant by boosting efficiency and reliability. It will also provide preventive maintenance and onsite technical assistance.

The agreement covers the plant’s six SGT5-4000F gas turbines, four SST5-4000 steam turbines, and 10 SGen5-1200A generators including instrumentation and controls.

The new power plant will be located south of Doha. It will include two power blocks, each of which will fire three gas turbines feeding two steam turbines in a 3+2 configuration. With a total electrical output of 2.5 GW, the plant will provide nearly a quarter of Qatar’s installed generation capacity. It will also provide up to 136 million gallons of drinking water per day.

The first phase of the plant will be commissioned in 2017, with the remainder of the plant coming online in mid-2018.

The owner of the plant, Umm Al Houl Power Q.S.C., was established through a partnership between Qatar Electricity and Water, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Foundation, and K1 Energy.
