Clean Energy Future has chosen Siemens as the turnkey technology partner for its Lordstown Energy Center.
The 940-MW, natural gas-fired, combined-cycle facility will be built in Lordstown, Ohio and is expected to begin operation in the summer of 2018. Once online, it will generate enough electricity to power about 800,000 households.
Delivering its H-class Flex-Plant™ combined-cycle technologies, Siemens will provide two SGT6-8000H gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, two air-cooled SGen6-1200A generators, and one hydrogen-cooled SGen6-2000H steam generator.
The Lordstown plant will also incorporate two NEM heat recovery steam generators and an SPPA-T3000 electrical equipment and instrumentation control system.
The plant design will utilize Siemen’s Flex-Plant combined-cycle features including fast gas turbine start, which reduces startup emissions by up to 95 percent, and Clean-Ramp technology, which maintains low emissions while load following.
“As we look at the future of power generation in the United States, projects like the Lordstown Energy Center provide an example of how communities can harness cleaner-burning and affordable natural gas to provide efficient and reliable power,” said John Gibson, Head of Sales North America at Siemens Power and Gas Division.
Siemens also signed a long-term service agreement for the plant to ensure reliability and performance of the units. The company will monitor plant diagnostics from its remote facility.
Siemens Financial Services co-funded the project and will provide a 27 percent equity investment alongside Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets.
Including the service contract, total project costs will exceed $800 million.
