Contractor Dies at Construction Site of Indiana Power Plant

Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) says a contractor was killed Wednesday in an accident at its Eagle Valley Generating Station.

The Associated Press reports Morgan County Coroner Annette Rohlman has idenfied the contractor as 50-year-old Rickey Brewer, of Danville, Indiana.  Rohlman said Brewer died from blunt force trauma.

According to a statement from IPL, the contractor was working at the construction site of a new combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station near Martinsville in Morgan County.  The utility released no other details regarding the accident, but WRTV cites a Morgan County dispatcher as saying Brewer was pinned between a trailer and a truck.

“Safety remains IPL’s top priority,” reads the statement on IPL’s website.  “…and we will continue working with emergency personnel to confirm details regarding the incident.”

IPL, a subsidiary of AES Corporation, serves more than 480,000 electricity customers in Indianapolis and other central Indiana communities surrounding Marion County.
