Tampa Electric Unveils Utility's 1st Large-Scale Solar Project

Tampa Electric has unveiled its largest solar photovoltaic installation to date.  The 2-MW installation forms a canopy of solar panels atop Tampa International Airport’s south Economy Parking Garage, providing solar energy to Tampa Electric customers and shade for parking patrons.

The project is the utility’s first foray into large-scale solar power, and the electricity generated by the array is being fed into the grid.

Tampa Electric, one of Florida’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, has plans to build several more large-scale arrays in the coming years.  A 23-MW project planned for the Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach will be the largest solar array in Hillsborough County upon completion.
