SunPower Completes NV Energy-Owned Solar Array at Nevada Air Force Base

SunPower Corp. has completed its second large-scale solar installation at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

Owned by NV Energy, the 15-MW Nellis Solar Array II Generating Station was constructed over a closed landfill using SunPower® Oasis® Power Plant Technology, a fully-integrated, modular solar power block engineered to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy large solar projects, maximizing power generation and optimizing land use.

NV Energy also built a new adjacent substation and underground distribution lines to provide additional reliability at the base.

Together, Nellis Solar Array I, a 13.2-MW solar field in operation since 2007, and II can meet the base’s energy needs during daylight hours.

While 11 other large-scale solar generating resources serve NV Energy customers, Nellis Solar Array II is the first large-scale solar project owned by NV Energy.
