 Siemens to Convert Peru’s Santo Domingo Power Plant to Combined Cycle

Siemens has received an order to upgrade the Santo Domingo de los Olleros power plant 60 kilometers south of Lima, Peru. The upgrade will convert supplier Termochilca’s simple-cycle plant to combined-cycle operability, increasing its power output by about 100 MW, improving efficiency and reducing the plant’s CO2 emissions by 30 percent.
Siemens will be responsible for turnkey supply of the power plant upgrade, including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the combined-cycle conversion.
The company will supply one SST-900 steam turbine, one SGen6-100A generator, a three-pressure heat recovery steam generator and an air-cooled condenser. Air cooling will enable the plant to use less water.
Siemens completed construction of the 200-MW Santo Domingo de los Olleros simple-cycle plant in 2013, equipping it with an SGT6-5000F gas turbine. Following the plant’s conversion to combined-cycle operation, output will increase to 300 MW with efficiency surpassing 55 percent.
Santo Domingo de los Olleros is scheduled to begin commercial, combined-cycle operation in early 2018.
