Report: 12 GW of Wind Turbine Contracts Awarded Globally in 2nd Half of 2015

Nearly 140 projects in 25 countries were awarded wind turbine contracts in the second half of 2015, according to a new report by Navigant Research.

Wind Turbine Order Tracker 1Q16 tracks all publicly announced wind turbine orders between July and December 2015 by region, country and vendor.  In the six-month period analyzed by the report, more than 12 GW of capacity were awarded for global projects.

According to the report, Europe led all regions with more than 5 GW of capacity in orders.  North America had just less than 2.8 GW in orders and Asia Pacific had just more than 2 GW.

The report also offers a comparison of onshore and offshore wind markets and examines turbine components, including rotor diameter, rating and specific power.

Siemens and Vestas led turbine order vendors in total capacity awarded, with GE, Gamesa and MHI Vestas rounding out the top five.
