GE Jenbacher J312 Gas Engine Powering Italy Trigeneration Plant

GE Jenbacher J312 Gas Engine Powering Italy Trigeneration Plant

General Electric says its Jenbacher J312 gas engine has entered commercial operation at Ramaplast S.p.A.'s new trigeneration plant in Italy.

The plant provides cooling, heating and power for the company, which produces plastic boxes for various uses.

Located in Castelnuovo Scrivia in the Piemonte region, the plant can generate more than 600 kW of electrical power year round and more than 700 kW of thermal power in winter and summer.

Ramaplast also signed a 16-year service agreement with GE.

The plant can work as backup power and in island mode, with the Jenbacher engine supplying power to the main plant when disconnected from Italy’s grid and with import/export control known as the “scambio zero” feature.  Using that feature, the gas engine can produce 50 to 100 percent of the factory’s electrical power without tapping into the national grid.

Ramaplast can also sell power generated by the trigeneration plant to the national grid.

The J312, manufactured at GE's Jenbach, Austria factory, was sold to Ramaplast in a container to run with fewer required additional compoenents, piping and electric connection.  The container was manufactured at the Veresegyház, Hungary facility.
