Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has announced the completion of a solar project at Daytona International Speedway.

FPL Solar Circuit features more than 7,000 solar panels on three canopy-like structures.  The 2.1 MW installation is generating electricity for the speedway’s operations as well as FPL’s 4.8 million customers.

FPL Solar Circuit is also equipped with data-gathering equipment for use in a multi-year study to improve the integration of solar energy and smart grid technologies.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, FPL Solar Circuit is among the top five largest solar installations at U.S. professional sports facilities.
