ENEC Signs Transmission Deal for Barakah Nuclear Units

ENEC Signs Transmission Deal for Barakah Nuclear Units

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) signed a connection and interface agreement with the Abu Dhabi Transmission and Dispatch Co. (TRANSCO).

The agreement establishes a contractural operating framework that will allow the electricity generated from ENEC’s four nuclear reactors currently under construction at the Barakah site to be transmitted over TRANSCO power lines to the UAE grid.

The signing of the agreement allows ENEC to prepare for the energization of the switchyard, which is a safety test performed under supervision of experts to examine new electric equipment and verify its conformity to regulatory requirements. Once the equipment is deemed satisfactory for normal service, the equipment is turned over to the system operator for normal service.

Barakah Unit 1 is 84 percent complete, Unit 2 is 64 percent finished, Unit 3 is at 41 percent completion and Unit 4 is 25 percent done. All four units are set to be operational in 2020.
