Citizen Groups Opposing South Dunes Power Plant

Jordan Cove Energy Project

The Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) on Feb. 19 will consider legal arguments being put forth by a number of citizen groups that oppose the 420-MW South Dunes power plant.

The power plant would serve the Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

The council will hear and consider interlocutory appeals of the Hearing Officer's Order on Petitions for Party Status filed by the Oregon Coast Alliance (ORCA); the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition (Oregon Shores); Citizens Against LNG (CALNG) and Jody McCaffree (collectively); and Hair on Fire Oregon (HOFO), according to the agenda published by the Oregon Department of Energy.

In October, the council's staff issued a Proposed Order that recommends approval of a Site Certificate for the power plant for the Jordan Cove Energy Project LP.  The applicant is Jordan Cove Energy Project, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Veresen Inc.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy has approved an application by the Jordan Cove Energy Project L.P. to export LNG from Port of Coos Bay in Oregon.  DOE found that the LNG project would not drive up domestic gas or electricity prices.
