Westinghouse UK Facility Can Manufacture SMR Nuclear Fuel

Westinghouse Electric Co. said its Springfields facility in the U.K. is now able to manufacture small modular reactor (SMR) fuel.
The readiness milestone is an important part of Westinghouse’s partnership with the U.K. government to deploy SMR technology. The Westinghouse Springfields facility completed a readiness assessment based upon fabrication data for two proprietary SMR fuel assemblies manufactured at the company’s Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in South Carolina.
Westinghouse and the U.K. government in October agreed that Westinghouse would contribute its 225-MW pressurized water reactor conceptual design and partner with the government and industry to complete, license and deploy the design.
