Siemens to Supply 122 Wind Turbines for Kansas Power Project

Siemens to supply wind turbines to Western Plains project in Kansas Westar Energy

Westar Energy Inc. ordered 122 Siemens (NYSE: SI) wind turbines for a wind energy project in Kansas.

Siemens will supply the SWT-2.3-108 turbines for the planned 280-MW Western Plains Wind Farm in Kansas. Installation of the turbines is set to begin in early summer 2016, with the start of operations scheduled for early 2017. Siemens will also provide service and maintenance, including the company’s advanced remote monitoring and diagnostics.

The turbine blades will be manufactured at the Siemens blade facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, and the nacelles will be assembled at the facility in Hutchinson, Kansas.
