Florida-based Powerphase has announced the installation of an advanced upgrade on a 7FA gas turbine in the Middle East.
The Turbophase Dry Air Injection system, installed in four months to meet summer peak load requirements, improved the turbine’s fuel efficiency at base-load and part-load conditions by 5 percent and demonstrated a 31.5-MW power increase, according to Powerphase.
The upgraded turbine also showed up to 99.3-percent availability in ambient conditions up to 55 degrees Celsius.
“Our analysis indicates a substantial power increase and fuel savings for nations in the region if they implement our upgrades across their gas turbine fleet,” said Bob Kraft, president and CEO of Powerphase. “The Turbophase system can be integrated into a new or existing gas turbine plant at a much lower cost than building new plants and improving the fuel efficiency by more than 5 percent. If implemented across the gas turbine fleet in the region, the Turbophase system would add more than 5 GW of power and would save more than 18vmillion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per year. It’s a generational leap in new gas turbine technology, representing billions in potential savings for the region.”
According to Powerphase, the same system could be installed on every gas turbine in the world with similar output and fuel efficiency benefits.
