Hitachi Forms UK Nuclear Development Company

Hitachi Ltd. announced the formation of a company that will lead its work on development of a nuclear power plant in the UK.

The company incorporated a new company called Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe Ltd., as well as further progress with potential joint venture partners Bechtel Management Company Ltd. And JGC Corp (JGC). The new Tier 1 company and joint venture are expected to help Hitachi enhance its UK presence for the engineering, procurement and construction of Horizon Nuclear Power’s Wylfa Newydd nuclear plant. The companies have all signed the memorandum of understanding.

Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd. Will provide the UK ABWR design, and will operate under contract to the Tier 1 team, once fully established. Construction on the two ABWRs is scheduled to begin in 2019.
