 MHPSA Invites Industry Leaders to View 1st North American Production of M501J Gas Turbine

Production has started on Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems' (MHPS) first J-Series turbine to be manufactured in North America.

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MHPSA) recently invited 65 industry leaders to its Savannah Machinery Works (SMW) facility in Savannah, Georgia to view production of the M501J gas turbine.

MHPS' J-Series advanced technology gas turbine is capable of achieving a combined-cycle efficiency of 61.5 percent with sustained 1,600°C (2,912°F) turbine inlet temperatures.  It also reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 60 percent in combined-cycle operation when compared to conventional coal plants.

Seventeen J-Series units are currently in commercial operation at six power plants across the globe.  Unit 18 is expected to go online in South Korea in January 2016.

Slated to replace a coal-fired unit at Grand River Dam Authority’s (GRDA) Grand River Energy Center in Oklahoma, the first M501J turbine manufactured in North America is scheduled for commercial operation in the second quarter of 2017.
