The city of Las Vegas will run its operations from 100 percent renewable energy when a deal is approved and a project is completed.
The city and utility NV Energy filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada and for ratification by the Las Vegas City Council to dedicate a portion of energy produced by a solar energy project under development to city operations. The energy from the solar plant, in addition to the power the city receives from NV Energy that already satisfies the state’s renewable portfolio standard, will allow the city’s retail load to be served at 100 percent, including streetlights, city parks, community centers, fire stations and public buildings owned by the city.
The solar project, the 100-MW Boulder Solar power plant, is under development in Boulder City, Nevada. Commercial operation is scheduled for 2016.
