 Hitachi-GE to Lead Nuclear Decommissioning International Alliance

Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd. completed cooperative agreements with international companies to decommission boiling water reactors (BWRs) in Japan.
Hitachi-GE will collaborate with the U.K.’s Cavendish Nuclear Limited and France’s Areva NC S.A. on the decommissioning. Cavendish Nuclear brings experience in decommissioning planning and engineering, waste management and reactor decommissioning for U.K. and European Gas-Cooled and light water reactors. Areva has experience decommissioning reactors in Europe and the U.S.
Studies have been launched on how to decommission nuclear reactors in Japan. Currently, 14 reactors -- including six at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant -- are set to permanently shut down.
