The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA) has announced its first utility-scale solar project.

The 500-kW ground-mounted solar array and energy storage system are slated for four acres of city property in St. Charles, Illinois.

The project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 75 homes over the course of 20 years.  IMEA has a long-term power purchase agreement for the project’s output.

The array is being built and operated by Convergence Energy LLC, Continental Electric Construction Company and Solar Power and Light LLC and Intelligent Generation LLC will manage the lithium-ion energy storage system.

IMEA is comprised of 32 municipal electric systems and one electric cooperative across Illinois.
